Instructor-led training (ILT)
Also known as: ILT, VILT, classroom training
Instructor-led training, or ILT, is training delivered live by a trainer to a group. When it happens in person it is classroom training; when it happens online in real time, for example over a video call, it is called virtual instructor-led training, or VILT. Its strength is interaction: people can ask questions, practise, and learn from each other.
When live training works best
It suits practical skills that need hands-on practice, topics that benefit from discussion such as leadership or customer handling, and situations where a trainer must observe and assess people, like some safety certifications.
It is less efficient for pure knowledge that people could take at their own pace online.
ILT vs VILT
In-person sessions give the richest interaction and suit hands-on practice. Virtual sessions remove travel, reach people across sites and countries, and are easier to schedule, but need shorter sessions and more deliberate interaction to keep people engaged.

An LMS can schedule sessions, handle registration and waiting lists, send joining instructions and reminders, record attendance, and store materials, so live training sits in the same record as online courses.
